Lawrence public officials to participate in panel on civility in civic discourse

Lawrence elected officials and civic professionals will participate in a panel on the culture of engagement with public issues.

The League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County is sponsoring “Bringing Civility Back to Civic Discourse” to discuss “how we talk to each other in civic life,” according to information from event organizers.

Panelists include Amber Sellers, Lawrence city commissioner; Patrick Kelly, Douglas County commissioner; Rich Lockhart, chief of the Lawrence Police Department; Kelly Jones, Lawrence school board member; and Kyle Velte, KU Law faculty member.

The event is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6 at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vermont St. It’s free to attend and no registration is required.
