A 29-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash Thursday evening after he swerved his motorcycle to avoid turkeys that had entered the roadway, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was heading southwest on East 661 Diagonal Road near North 750 Road just after 5 p.m. when the crash occurred. The area is just north of Lone Star Lake.

“Deputies noted the man was wearing full protective gear, including a helmet, which likely kept his injuries from being worse,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The man was flown to a Kansas City-area hospital.

“Also, it is a good reminder to be aware of wildlife near roads this time of year, including turkeys and deer,” according to DGSO.
