Women for Kansas will host a virtual talk to inform voters about a 2026 ballot question proposing that voters elect Kansas Supreme Court justices.

Carol Beier, a former Kansas Supreme Court justice appointed by former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, will present.

A question about justice appointments will appear on the August 2026 primary election ballot. The proposed amendment would shift the current merit-based process that’s completed in multiple steps involving nominations and peers to a public election process.

Women for Kansas and other critics share concerns that the change would result in a politician-centered bench, but proponents argue it would empower voters.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 online via Zoom.
