No experience is needed to support seed harvesting efforts at a nature preserve outside of Lawrence.
Two volunteer events hosted by Native Lands Restoration Collaborative and Douglas County are scheduled for 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 and 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9.
They’ll take place at the Ivan Boyd Prairie Preserve, 184 East 2000 Road, east of Baldwin City off of Highway 56 near Black Jack Park.
Native prairies seeds collected will support local ecological restoration projects and free seed libraries, according to a news release from the county.
Volunteers, regardless of prior experience, are needed. All ages are welcome, and participants are encouraged to wear long pants and sturdy, close-toe shoes. The hosts will provide gloves, tools and education.
Email NativeLandsKS@gmail.com to sign up and be notified if the either event is rescheduled or canceled because of inclement weather.
