Friends of Lawrence Area Trails on Wednesday will host a public meeting to share details about Cameron’s Bluff, a new trail system, park and open space in development in Lawrence.

The meeting is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the auditorium of the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

“The trails would be built on land owned by Evergy on the west shore of the Kansas River, north of I-70,” according to a news release from organizers. “The trails would provide recreational opportunities for cycling, hiking, fishing, and easy access to beautiful woods along the river close to downtown Lawrence.”

There will be a brief presentation starting at 5:45 p.m. Then attendees will be able to explore the plans for the trail system, ask questions and share their feedback through an open house-style setup. No registration is required to attend.

“All funds necessary for the development and maintenance of Cameron’s Bluff have been committed through private sources,” according to the project website. “Evergy has made the land available for public access, which is the most important piece. Evergy also has committed volunteer labor and equipment from their Green Team to build the trails.

“Trail design is estimated to cost $18,000–$20,000,” the website continues. “Members of Friends of Lawrence Area Trails (FLAT) have committed to raising these funds. The Bowersock Mills & Power Company has committed to ensuring maintenance of the trails through staff and volunteer work.”
