When parking is free, when trash pickup is delayed and more Thanksgiving holiday notes

Here’s info on when parking downtown is free, when trash pickup will be delayed, what’s closed when and more for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Lawrence.

Parking will be free at meters, in lots and in garages in downtown Lawrence on Thursday and Friday.

“In addition, mobile payment users can receive two hours of free parking on Saturday, Nov. 29 by entering the code ‘ParkLawrence25’ at the confirmation/checkout page in either City of Lawrence parking app,” according to the city. Links to download parking apps can be found at lawrenceks.gov/ezpark.

City of Lawrence and Douglas County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27 and 28, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

There will be no Douglas County Commission meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 26. The Lawrence City Commission’s next meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Lawrence Transit will have no service on Thursday, including fixed-route buses, paratransit and on-demand service. Central Station will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Solid waste pickup will be delayed one day for Thursday and Friday residential customers. Thursday’s routes will be collected on Friday, and Friday’s trash routes will be collected on Saturday. There will be no changes for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday customers.

“Due to the late influx of fallen leaves this year, there WILL be yard waste collection during Thanksgiving week,” according to the city.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Thursday and Friday, but the digital library is available 24/7 at lplks.org/digital-library.

All city Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed Thursday. Holiday hours for recreation centers will be as follows:
— Community Building, East Lawrence Rec Center and Holcom Park Rec Center: Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Friday
— Sports Pavilion Lawrence: Open 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday; 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday
— Prairie Park Nature Center: Closed Friday
— Eagle Bend Golf Course: Open 9 a.m. to dusk Friday; hours vary due to weather and frost

The Indoor Aquatic Center’s hours will be as follows:
— Lap swimming from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., warm water workout from 8 to 10 a.m., and the zero-depth children’s area and the slide and diving area will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26.
— Lap swimming from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., warm water workout from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and the zero-depth children’s area and the slide and diving area will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28.

Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed Thursday and Friday. The Treatment and Recovery Center of Douglas County at 1000 W. Second St. is available 24/7. The HeadQuarters Kansas crisis line is available at 785-841-2345 or 988.

Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health will be closed Thursday and Friday.
