Low brass instrumentalists from ages 12 to 80 will join onstage for an annual holiday concert in Lawrence.
Students from Lawrence Public Schools and the University of Kansas, in addition to members of the New Horizons Band of Lawrence and the wider community, will participate in this year’s Brassmas, according to a news release. Their tubas, euphoniums and trombones will create rich sounds of the season.
The program includes a special performance by KU Tuba/Euphonium Consort, and the whole ensemble of musicians will play several holiday classics. David Earll, tuba and euphonium professor at KU, will conduct.
“Whether you are a music lover, a supporter of local arts, or simply searching for a heartwarming way to kick off December, Brassmas 2025 is the perfect occasion,” the release says.
Brassmas is scheduled for noon Friday, Dec. 5 at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive. It’s expected to last an hour, and it’s free to attend and open to the public.
The district first hosted the combined concert in December 2023 in hopes of creating a tradition. Around 130 KU students and Lawrence middle schoolers performed throughout the 2024 event.
