Lawrence is under a winter weather advisory until Monday evening and the University of Kansas has announced that its campuses will close this afternoon.
As of 10 a.m. Monday, a Kansas News Service meteorologist anticipated that Lawrence would see around 3 inches of snowfall throughout the day.
The city has reported a high number of crashes and Lawrence Transit delays, and is urging residents to stay home and off the roads. The winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.
Here are updates on what closures and cancellations have been announced throughout the city. We’ll post additional closures here as we receive word of them.

Closures and cancellations throughout Lawrence:
• The University of Kansas’ Lawrence, Edwards and Leavenworth campuses will close at 1 p.m. Monday. In-person and online classes are being cancelled. Only weather-essential employees will remain on campus after 1 p.m., but remote or hybrid employees are to continue working remotely throughout the day.
“Both the university and City of Lawrence are attempting to run buses, but service is limited and unpredictable due to road conditions,” according to the announcement from KU.

• After-school activities, events and practices for Lawrence Public Schools are canceled for Monday.
• Solid waste pickup for the remainder of Monday is canceled. “Solid waste crews will finish collecting solid waste from Monday routes on Tuesday before moving on to Tuesday routes,” according to a City of Lawrence announcement. “Residents should continue to set out their solid waste carts on their regular collection day, with the understanding that trash pickup may be delayed by one day this week while we catch up.”
• Haskell Indian Nations University has canceled all afternoon classes.
• The Lawrence Public Library will close at 5 p.m. Monday.
• At 10:45 a.m., Lawrence Transit posted an update stating that “all buses to hold at Central Station or Downtown until further notice. Routes 1-12 are paused.” Read more about crash reports and Lawrence Transit updates at this link.
• Lawrence Arts Center announced that afternoon preschool and kindergarten classes would be cancelled Monday afternoon, as will all afternoon and evening classes and activities. The center will also close at 4 p.m. Monday.
• LMH Health clinics remain open, but all Parkinson’s classes on Monday have been cancelled.

Evergy outages:
• Check the status of power outages on the Evergy outage map, outagemap.evergy.com.
• Report a power outage at evergy.com/report-outage, or call 800-544-4857.
• For down powerlines, call Evergy’s emergency line, 800-383-1183, if above-ground lines are arcing or making contact with trees or vegetation. Call 911 immediately if overhead power lines are on the ground or a fire starts. Do not go near the line.
National Weather Service local office (Topeka):

City of Lawrence snow info:
• The city has snow information and a map at lawrenceks.org/snow that shows information about road conditions and where snowplows have been. The city typically begins snow and ice control for residential roadways when 2 or more inches of snowfall or icing occurs.
Highway conditions beyond Lawrence:
• KanDrive, an app and website from the Kansas Department of Transportation, has info on highway conditions statewide. KanDrive is available online at KanDrive.gov, and its app is available for download free on the App Store and Google Play.
Air quality:
• Check the current air quality index in Lawrence and elsewhere through AirNow, airnow.gov.
