Beauty Brands in Lawrence will permanently close before the new year.

The cosmetics retailer, salon and spa at 3514 Clinton Parkway will open for its final day on Dec. 28, according to a corporate customer service spokesperson who did not give their name.

Headquartered in Kansas City, Beauty Brands has operated in Lawrence for nearly 30 years.

The spokesperson did not respond to a question asking about the reasons for the closure, but the chain has closed several locations in recent years, including the Lenexa store.

According to the Kansas City Star, the company downsized significantly in 2018 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2019.

“First, we are extremely grateful to all our associates who have provided outstanding service to our clients over the years,” the spokesperson said via email. “We also want to thank the entire Lawrence community for providing us with a wonderful home since 1996.”

Services at Beauty Brands include facials, manicures and pedicures, haircuts and hair coloring, and more. The spokesperson did not respond to a question asking about the number of Lawrence employees who will lose their jobs but said the company is “offering assistance and opportunities where possible.”

The store is in the Parkway Plaza shopping strip just northwest of Clinton Parkway and Kasold Drive, where Blush Boot Camp was also located before it closed over the summer.

Beauty Brands locations in Topeka and around the Kansas City area will remain open.
