Although Lawrence’s Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade won’t take to the streets this year, the show will go on for the Watkins Museum’s accompanying Tails and Traditions Holiday Festival.

The event is free to attend and takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the museum, 1047 Massachusetts St.

For the 13th annual Tails and Traditions, kids will get to partake in “holiday crafts from around the world, including the famous Watkins Hobby Horses and the Ellie on the Shelf scavenger hunt,” according to the event page.

The museum is promising more activities this year than ever before on their Facebook page, including the opportunity to make holiday- or winter-themed autograph books with the Wakarusa River Valley Heritage Museum, or paper lanterns with folks from KU’s Center for East Asian Studies.

Other groups, such as the Kansas African Studies Center, the Lawrence Arts Center and Spencer Museum of Art will also lead activities. Read the full list of activity hosts here.

The Watkins is always free to the public and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
