Upcoming local celebrations of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah will welcome all ages of the public.

Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel, co-director of the Chabad Center, will light candles on a 9-foot-tall menorah at the annual Downtown Lawrence Chanukah gathering. There will be food, hot beverages, activities, gifts and live music, Tiechtel said.

The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. It’s free to attend, and celebrations are set to last an hour.

A local singer-songwriter will perform at the fourth annual “Hanukkah Rocks!” concert in downtown Lawrence. Benjamin Cartel & The Mavens will perform at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Granada Theater, 1020 Massachusetts St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 through etix.com, the online ticket service via the Granada’s website, and will increase day-of. All ages will be admitted.

Tiechtel will be back at the library from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15 for his annual Amazing Olive Press Storytime. There, he’ll tell the story of Hanukkah to children and families while they squeeze olive oil and make a menorah wick. The event is free to attend.

• The Lawrence Jewish Community Congregation, a lay-led synagogue and community center, will host its annual Hanukkah party with a menorot lighting, potluck and concert. Fresh-fried latkes will be offered, and attendees are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Wichita-based band R&J Klezmer will perform live, and more activities include arts, crafts and games.

Festivities are set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at the congregation, 917 Highland Drive. The community menorot will be lit at 5:30 p.m. It’s free to attend and registration is available online.

The LJCC is also a sponsor of the “Hanukkah Rocks!” concert.
