A stag and an elk walk into a bar and, no joke, they will aim to make Lawrence’s newest rootin’ tootin’ brewery with live country music and a speakeasy.

Black Stag Brewery at 623 Massachusetts St. closed in October after six years of service. The business has come under new ownership and is rebranding as two concepts: The Stag and The Elk.

“We’re stepping out of the wild and onto Mass Street — antlers high, spirits lifted, and our untamed side proudly intact,” a post on their Facebook page reads.

The new owners did not respond to a request for further information by publication time Friday.

The Stag will remain a brewery with beer, cocktails and plenty of onstage action such as live country music, open mic nights and acoustic nights.

The Elk, a speakeasy, is tucked “behind the antlers” of The Stag, according to the post.

The brewery and speakeasy are set to open New Year’s Eve with a lineup of live acts.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31. Performers include Big Time Grain Co. and Dylan Gerard from “The Voice.” Guests can also expect a champagne toast, party favors and a dance floor. Cover for 18- to 20-year-olds is $10, and it’s $15 for 21 and older.

Find out more about opening night here. The brewery has a number of music gigs booked for January, including Rusty Lafoon, Phil Vandel and Michael Shaun Brown.
