“Taylor Drift” was so last season. Now, there’s a new name in town among the city’s snowplow fleet, and the machine has been adorned with a custom magnet.
Last year, the city’s first snowplow naming contest winner was decided by a panel of city officials, and “Taylor Drift” stole the show.
Locals submitted more than 300 name ideas for this year’s contest, which was decided entirely by community votes.
The masses spoke, and “The Blizzard of Oz” will now join the snowplow fleet as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and a Kansas fiction classic. Around 290 people voted.
The plow’s new name magnet just arrived, and the winners who ideated it got to get a close-up with the machine, meet its operator and celebrate their superior wittiness.
“It was a total blast, and we’re so grateful to everyone who submitted names and helped make this year’s contest so fun,” the city said in a Facebook post. “Lawrence, you’ve got creativity and winter spirit.”
The city says to look out for The Blizzard of Oz on the streets during the next winter storm.
