Four finalists for the provost and executive vice chancellor role at the University of Kansas will give public presentations in January and February. KU aims to fill the position by March.
In November, Barbara Bichelmeyer announced that she would be stepping down from her administrative role at the university.
She is the current chief academic officer, provost and executive vice chancellor for Lawrence campuses, as well as the chief learning officer. Per an article from the University Daily Kansan, Bichelmeyer wants to move into to a faculty role.
Chancellor Douglas Girod announced the search committee tasked with replacing Bichelmeyer Nov. 10. Next, the four remaining candidates will give in-person presentations at KU.

A candidate’s name will be announced two days before their presentation. The talks will also be livestreamed, and recorded versions will be made available.
Here is the presentation schedule, according to an announcement from Girod:
- Candidate 1: 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Burge Union, Forum D, 1565 Irving Hill Road
- Candidate 2: 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at the Burge Union, Forum A and B
- Candidate 3: 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at the Kansas Union, Woodruff Auditorium, 1301 Jayhawk Blvd.
- Candidate 4: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the Kansas Union, Woodruff Auditorium
“These open sessions will provide opportunities for KU community members to engage with each candidate, hear their vision for the university, and share feedback with the search committee,” Girod wrote in his memo.
He said the search team plans to have a new provost in place by Mar. 1.
