The Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority will start accepting applications next week for apartments at Delmar Place, a new affordable complex for older people.

The housing authority held a ribbon cutting celebration in November for the 32-unit apartment complex near 23rd and Iowa streets. It includes units that are fully accessible under Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.

Rent is on a sliding scale based on the resident’s income, according to a Tuesday news release from the housing authority.

Applicants must have low incomes and be 50 years of age or older, and they must meet the eligibility guidelines, according to the release. LDCHA will give preference to applicants who are Douglas County residents ages 62 and up.

LDCHA will start accepting applications Monday, Jan. 5, according to the release. Full eligibility guidelines and an application are available online at ldcha.org/apply-for-housing-eligible.

“Applicants who are already on the LDCHA waiting list and meet the age criteria may contact the LDCHA to add Delmar Place to the type of housing they have applied for,” according to the release. “Requests to be added to the Delmar Place waitlist must be in writing to 1600 Haskell Ave. or in person.”
