As football fans gear up for the 60th Super Bowl, Lawrencians are readying their utensils for an annual soup and ceramics jubilee.
The thirtieth local Souper Bowl will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.
Hosted by the LAC, the Souper Bowl is a ceramic bowl sale featuring handmade goods from local artists. Bowls start at $15 and all proceeds go to the center’s arts education program, reaching about 7,500 students each year.
“Since 1996, the Souper Bowl has been held on the Saturday before the big football championship game, bringing artists and community members together to support the arts,” according to the event page.
In addition to buying a bowl, folks can “fill a bowl” by bringing nonperishable food donations for Just Food, the Douglas County food pantry. People will get $1 off their bowl purchases per donation, with a maximum of $3 off.
There will also be art activities in the arts center lobby for people of all ages as a cherry on top.
Folks can also find a platter to accompany their bowls with an online silent auction benefitting the LAC’s visual arts education program and ceramics studio. The auction is open now through Feb. 7. Learn more at this link.
“Edible Ink: Serving it Up,” a food-themed exhibition and sale with work from 18 local artists, also runs through Feb. 7. Those funds will go to the center’s printmaking studio and graphics lab. Read more about it at this link.
