Developers have announced that Costco is set to open this fall as the “anchor” of a mixed-used development springing up in west Lawrence.

Costco will open in fall 2026, “just in time for Thanksgiving,” according to a press release from Lane4 Property Group, which facilitated the sale of the land.

Construction is currently underway for the store, which will be at the northwest corner of Entrada and Mercato Drives, south of LMH Health West Campus and Rock Chalk Park.

This Costco — a new location for the membership-based warehouse-style chain — will be full service, including bakery, produce and floral departments; a Tire Center, or auto service shop; and a gas station with 24 pumps.

“We’re thrilled to help bring (Costco) to Lawrence and see this as a major destination anchor that draws shoppers from across Douglas County and Lawrence’s surrounding communities,” said Becca Koester, representative of the ownership group, K-10/40 Development LC.

But Costco won’t be the only new addition to the mixed-use development dubbed “The Mercato.”

Alongside existing facilities and businesses like Stone Hill Hotel, there will be a new Truity Credit Union and Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy store, according to the release.

“In recent years, western Lawrence has been one of the fastest-growing markets in the city, with both residential growth and new retail activity expanding westward,” according to the release. “Investments in infrastructure west of K-10 are helping unlock previously underdeveloped land for both residential and commercial development.”
