Lawrence folks wondering what to do on a Saturday night will soon have a few more options with two forthcoming arcades and phosphorescent mini golf.

Empire Pubcade

At the start of the new year, Empire Bar & Billiards moved from its decadelong home at 925 Iowa St. to a new spot at 1527 W. Sixth St.

Now the Iowa Street location will be home to a brand new concept from the same owner: a pubcade.

According to their website, customers can expect a mix of classic arcade machines and modern favorites, as well as a fully stocked bar and live entertainment nights.

“We’ve been working hard toward getting our doors open, and we’re almost ready,” the Facebook post reads.

The pubcade hosted a pre-open dart tournament, but hasn’t announced an official start date on their pages yet.

Glowgolf

Joann Fabric and Crafts’ former location at 2108 W. 27th St. will soon be usurped by a glow-in-the-dark mini golf chain called Glowgolf.

A Lawrence location would be Glowgolf’s 12th franchise, per their website, joining a list that includes Wichita, Kansas and Springfield, Missouri, as well as spots throughout Oklahoma, Colorado and New York. Some of these locations also have glow-in-the-dark pool, ping-pong, cornhole, air hockey, laser mazes and more.

Glowgolf charges one price for customers to access all mini golf holes at other locations. Although the cost varies based on franchise and age of the customer, all tickets cost $15 or less per person.

An ‘interactive museum’ arcade

The owner behind downtown’s Blade & Timber and Sinkers Lounge recently filed for a commercial license.

According to the filing, the business wants to convert the basement of Sinkers, 722 Massachusetts St., to “an interactive Museum that showcases the history of the arcade entertainment industry.”

The top level of Sinkers currently hosts a mini golf lounge with craft cocktails, with access to Blade & Timber’s six lanes of axe throwing. Adults can do a round for $15 and kids 12 and under for $7. A day of unlimited mini golf and table-top golf run at $20 for adults and $11 for kids 12 and under.
