A section of U.S. 59 Highway, or Iowa Street, south of Lawrence is set to close for the weekend for bridge work.

The closure is part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Kansas Highway 10 expansion work.

The area of the road under the K-10 bridge is set to close at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20 “for construction and girder placements on the new K-10/SLT bridge,” according to a KDOT news release. Ramps to and from the highway will remain open.

“The area will remain closed until work is complete, or no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, March 23,” according to the release.

KDOT suggests a detour using West 31st Street, Haskell Avenue and North 1100 or North 1000 Road, according to the release and a map provided.

The work and traffic changes are subject to change depending on conditions.
