Lawrence will join the third surge of nationwide No Kings protests with a demonstration starting in Watson Park focused on visibility.
No Kings is a nationwide movement of peaceful protests that started in June in direct response to a costly parade and display of militarism planned by Trump for his birthday and the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary. Lawrence made strong showings for the local protest that month and a second one in October.
“These gatherings are for those who believe personal freedom matters more than top-down control,” organizers of the upcoming event said in a news release. “We come together to openly challenge systems that demand compliance over critical thinking.”
The upcoming Lawrence protest is scheduled so that folks who are able to make it to the state capitol’s No Kings action can come back in time to join the local event.

The Topeka demonstration will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28 at the Kansas State Capitol, 201 SW Eighth Ave.
Lawrence’s will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on the same day starting at Watson Park, 727 Kentucky St.
This third local protest is focused on visibility. Organizers are asking people to line up so people driving by can see each participant.
The PerSisters, a Lawrence-based women’s resistance choir, will also perform in the Watson Park gazebo.
On the event page, organizers emphasized that the protest will be lawful and peaceful, and anyone participating enters an unwritten agreement to be nonviolent and deescalate if there is a confrontation. The page also said no one should bring weapons, whether legal or not.
Folks who need seating should bring their own, organizers wrote. Due to the size of past gatherings, attendees should anticipate limited parking if they don’t arrive early. No items brought to the park should be left behind.
