Lawrence’s MixMaster Music Conference is set to return Sunday, aiming to provide valuable information and connections for local musicians and all involved in the city’s music scene.

The Lawrence Music Alliance’s annual event, set for Sunday, March 29 this year, “really focuses on connections within our music community and industry,” organization and event director Nick Carswell said in a news release.

Tickets are $11, available at this link through Saturday night or at the door when registration opens at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, March 29. Lunch will be provided, and events are set to run through 5 p.m.

The keynote panel, “What Makes a Music City?”, is set for 11 a.m. It will feature “arts leaders with vast experience in understanding what artists, cities and creative communities need to build vibrant music and arts sectors,” according to the release.

Panelists will include Don Pitts, of Sound Music Cities; Jennifer Roe, of Folk Alliance; Diane Scott, of Mid-America Arts Alliance; and Carswell. Michelle Bacon, of The Bridge 90.9, will serve as moderator.

“Other panels are dedicated to support systems for musicians, navigating music festivals, and music release strategies,” according to the release.

Photographer Lillian Hammer will offer free band shots or polaroid photos for artists; some signup slots are still available at this link.

There are multiple production workshops planned throughout the day in the Sound + Vision Studio. A workshop at 3 p.m. will feature hip-hop producer, rapper and recording artist Approach, the creative force behind Datura Records, according to the schedule of events.

Closing out the day at 4 p.m., the “Demo Dip session also returns, where musicians get real-time feedback on their demo recordings from industry professionals in radio, media, booking and more.”
