Lawrence’s City Compost Facility will soon host the first city-load event of the year, where staffers load compost and woodchips into residents’ trucks or trailers.
The upcoming city-load will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at the compost facility, 1420 E. 11th St.
“To help manage traffic and keep vehicles moving safely, a one scoop limit will be in effect until 11th Street is free of vehicles,” per a city release. “Residents who want two or three scoops are encouraged to come after 10:30 a.m., though availability of multiple scoops is not guaranteed.”
No one can get more than three scoops, and one scoop usually fills a pickup truck. Limits are up to staff discretion, and the one-scoop restriction applies per vehicle, not per material.
Compost and woodchips are available only for Lawrence residents April 4, and proof of residency will be required. Each truckload costs $15. The compost facility only accepts cash payments with exact change, and no bills larger than $20.
Future city-load dates are open to all. See this link for a full calendar of self-load and city-load events, plus an FAQ.
The facility is typically open most Saturdays from March through December, though it may close or hours may change because of weather or other circumstances. The facility is set to be closed on Saturdays June 20, July 4, Nov. 28, Dec. 19 and Dec. 26 this year.
