A Celebration of Life service for Dr. John “Connor” Thellman, M.D., age 30, will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Juniper Hill Farm in Lawrence, Kansas. The gathering will begin at 3:00 p.m. with the service at 3:30 p.m. A reception with simple bites and beverages featuring Connor’s favorite flavors will follow.

This service of shared stories and personal remembrances will honor Connor as our beloved son, brother, and friend–a gentle soul who is immensely missed and now remembered with deep gratitude and boundless love. We look forward to sharing this day with Connor’s friends and family, and with those in the community who have a soft spot for Juniper Hill Farm, a place Connor was so proud to call home.

Earlier this year in Portland, Oregon, the pathology department at Oregon Health and Science University held a memorial service to honor Connor’s life as one of their own: Chief Resident, promising young pathologist, excellent mentor, and cherished friend. We are indebted to the folks at OHSU—Connor’s “second family”—for providing that beautiful service, a much-needed reminder of the healing power of community. We hope to embody that same spirit as we gather here at home to remember Connor and celebrate his amazing life.

For those who wish to honor Connor’s memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his favorite public radio station in Portland: KMHD “Jazz Without Boundaries” (kmhd.org) serving up music Connor enjoyed each and every day.

His original obituary appeared January 8, 2026.

Note: We are offering Lawrence and Douglas County community members space to publish remembrances of loved ones who lived in this community, free of charge. These pieces are submitted by family and friends of the deceased and not written by our staff.

We are glad to be able to offer this service free to community members in mourning. We believe the last thing our neighbors need in those difficult moments is another financial matter to worry about. Please subscribe to the Times to help us continue providing this service and news access for all.
