Lawrence Public Library puts out bat signal for fandom aficionados to attend a free Comic-Con

The Lawrence Public Library is inviting fandom aficionados of all ages and stripes to a free, Comic-Con-style weekend.

LPL Con Teen Night will go from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 10, before the all-ages festivities, set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 11 at the public library, 707 Vermont St.

“Whether you go to Cons all the time or this is your first one, our family-friendly Library Con celebrates all media and fandoms, and offers Lawrence a free, Comic Con-style experience with all the library perks,” according to the event page.

Teen Night will include an artist alley; Say Cheez Photobooth; activities including Magic the Gathering, STEAM robotics and an Iron Cosplay build competition. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a cosplay contest. Learn more at this link.

Saturday’s festivities also include a vendor and artist alley throughout the duration, as well as a food truck, book tarot, a Dungeons and Dragons oneshot, Pokémon freeplay, a KPop Demon Hunters Dance Party and more.

There will also be a host of panels on Saturday, on cosplay and art topics. Newbery Honoree Pedro Martín will give an author talk and graphic novel workshop from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. in the auditorium, and Kansas City author LL McKinney will do an informational session on writing comics from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. in Meeting Room B.
