About half a mile of Second Street will close to through traffic, work on Iowa Street will flip to the other side of the road and more roadwork will be underway in the coming week.

Here are details, according to city updates:

Second Street between Michigan Street and McDonald Drive:

Second Street is set to close to through traffic between Michigan Street and McDonald Drive.

The closure will start Monday, Aug. 4 “to complete work for the City’s Street Maintenance Program,” according to the city. Later in the project, crews will close Second Street at the intersection with Michigan Street to complete apron work in the area.

Work is anticipated to be complete in late September, pending weather or other delays.

Iowa Street switchup

Traffic on Iowa Street will flip to the west half of the road starting Monday, Aug. 4. Crews will then work to finish the east side of the street.

During the shift, crews will close westbound 19th Street at Stewart Avenue in addition to closing the east side of 19th Street at Iowa Street, according to the city.

The project is expected to end in the first quarter of 2026, according to the city.

19th Street closing again post-fair

19th Street had reopened for Douglas County Fair-related traffic, but it will close again Monday between Haskell Avenue and Harper Street.

The project was initially anticipated to continue through summer 2026, but it is running ahead of schedule, according to the city.

More information about the project is available at lawrenceks.org/mso/maple-lane.

K-10 lane reductions continue

Kansas Highway 10 will be reduced to one lane at times over Yankee Tank Creek, just west of the Iowa Street/U.S. 59 Highway interchange.

Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Aug. 6, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Flaggers will be directing traffic, and motorists should plan for delays, according to KDOT.

The work is part of a project to widen the west leg of the South Lawrence Trafficway into a four-lane highway.
