Luis Ruiz, the city’s director of parks, recreation and culture, is leaving his position, effective Oct. 3.
Ruiz started in his position in May 2024. He came here from Mesa, Arizona, where he was deputy director of community facilities.
He’ll be returning to Mesa as their director of arts and culture, according to a city news release on Wednesday.
“I have great respect for the City of Lawrence and this community,” Ruiz said in the release. “It’s been an honor to serve here, and while I’ll miss the team, I’m grateful for the experience and excited to return home to Mesa.”
Lindsay Hart, assistant director of parks, recreation and culture, will again serve as the interim director of the department.
Hart previously served as interim director following the resignation of Derek Rogers at the end of 2023. She’s worked with the city since November 2021.
