Baldwin City

Regina Diane Strout, 70, died Sunday, August 17th at Vintage Park in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Regina was born November 17, 1954 in Topeka, Kansas to Eugene “Doc” Wells and Marion (Vausbinder) Wells. She was raised in Lawrence, Kansas, and attended Lawrence High School. She later earned an Associate’s Degree of Arts in Business from Baker University in 2008.

Regina married Warren James Knight on June 21, 1980 in Westcreek, Colorado. They had a daughter, Kendra Rebecca Knight. They later divorced. Regina was married to Jon Talcott Strout in Wichita, Kansas on October 6, 1989. Regina called Jon her “one great love.” They were blessed with 13 years of marriage—enjoying their horse farm near Baldwin City, hosting parties for friends and neighbors, and supporting Kendra in 4-H and school activities—until Jon’s passing on January 2, 2003. They were members of Clearfield United Methodist Church.

Regina worked for 16 years in clinical research operations for Pharmaceutical Research Associates (PRA) International. She was based in Lenexa, KS, but enjoyed work travel to England, Germany, and Switzerland. She later worked for Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Trinity Health until her retirement in 2017. She was a volunteer for the Vinland Valley 4-H Club and a former superintendent of the Douglas County 4-H Horseshow.

Regina had a vibrant and outgoing personality, and a daring and adventurous spirit. She was authentic, disarming, and generous in friendship. She nurtured an abiding love for animals, especially horses and dogs. She was a great dancer.

Regina took great pride in her family. She reveled in being a mechanic’s daughter and treasured the car racing traditions of the Wells family. She cherished her grandmothers for encouraging her Christian faith. She was a loyal big and little sister; and a loving, encouraging, and deeply devoted mother.

She told great stories, too, about her “wild youth,” friendships forged with her crew from the old Rock Chalk and the Gaslight in Lawrence, and her exploits on the California coast. Everyone from the old days has a striking tale of something they got up to with Redj.

Regina met challenges in life with dogged determination. When life was most difficult, as when losing her beloved Jon or in her own health struggles, she found strength and courage in God. At Jon’s funeral she said, “I hope people will see my faith, not my grief.” Her daily prayer devotions sustained her and assured her, and she knew a true peace.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Marion Wells; her husband, Jon Strout; and two sisters, Judy Ardahl and Pam Lawhon. She is survived by her daughter Kendra Knight and her son-in-law Benjamin Wiedmaier, of Fox River Grove, IL; her brother Mark Wells (Lani), of Placerville, CA; three brothers-in-law: Peter Strout (Shari) of Dallas, TX, and William and Christopher Strout (Kay), both of Lawrence, KS; many beloved nieces and nephews; and an abundance of old and new friends.

A Memorial Service will take place at Baldwin First United Methodist Church, 704 8th Street, Baldwin City, KS 66006 on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation starting one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence Public Library Friends & Foundation (LPLFF) and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com.
