Lawrence police on Tuesday provided the names of two men killed in separate motorcycle crashes in August.
Hunter Douglas Thuro, 29, died in a crash on Aug. 8 near 21st Street and Naismith Drive.
“A car was headed westbound on 21st. The motorcycle was traveling north on Naismith. The two collided,” according to a news release from the department at the time. The driver of the car had minor injuries and cooperated with the investigation, according to the release; Thuro was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thuro grew up in Wellsville, graduating as valedictorian of Wellsville High School. He then attended Wichita State University and the University of Kansas before beginning his career as a concrete mason, according to his obituary. He was a father to one son and is survived by numerous other family members as well.
Todd Joseph Rodman, 50, died after his motorcycle collided with a roundabout at Lake Pointe Drive and Clinton Parkway last Thursday, Aug. 28. Rodman had been taken to a trauma center in Topeka, where he was pronounced dead, police said at at the time.
We were unable to locate an obituary or further information about Rodman’s life as of publication time.
Rodman’s was the second fatal motorcycle crash at the roundabout this summer. Police said motorcyclist David Craig Evans, 44, of Gallatin, Tennessee, died after a crash at the same roundabout on July 9. A brief obituary for Evans said he was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
