Folks can get to know the four candidates for Lawrence City Commission during two upcoming forums to be hosted by former mayors.

The forums are set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 and Monday, Sept. 22 at Peaslee Tech, 2920 Haskell Ave.

Bob Schumm, Kristine Polian, Bart Littlejohn and Mike Courtney all advanced from the Aug. 5 primary and will face off for two Lawrence City Commission seats in the Nov. 4 general election.

“The forums will follow a broad category for each night with questions developed and posed by former Mayors,” according to a news release from organizers.

Among the coordinators are former mayors Shirley Martin-Smith, Mike Amyx and Bob Moody.

Moody said in the release that they asked former mayors still living in Lawrence to submit questions for the candidates. The candidates will not have seen the questions before the event, Amyx said in the release.

The forums will also be available via Zoom at this link.

Three Lawrence school board seats are also on the Nov. 4 ballot, and seven candidates are running:  incumbents Bob Byers, Kelly Jones and Shannon Kimball, and challengers ChrisTopher Niles Enneking, Matt Lancaster, Pam Shaw and Molly Starr. Here’s a look at their backgrounds and platforms.
