After a community painting party over the weekend, a street mural was nearing completion Sunday afternoon at Seventh and Alabama streets in Lawrence.

The mural, featuring two colorful turtles encircled by bright shapes and critters, is near the Lawrence Community Nursery School.

The school and Lawrence artist Dave Loewenstein “worked with LCNS students, (Old West Lawrence) neighbors, and the city to design the mural, get your feedback, get all the permits, and now it is the fun part – time to paint!” according to the hosts.

The shape of the schoolhouse, leaves and much more are incorporated into the turtle’s shell.
