A 20-year-old Lawrence woman was struck by a vehicle and killed just north of Lawrence Thursday evening, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help to identify the driver.

A passerby called dispatch around 3:35 a.m. Friday saying they had found a person near the road in the 1700 block of East 1500 Road.

Deputies have determined the pedestrian was struck around 6 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

“Deputies believe she had been running in the area before she was struck by a vehicle,” according to the release. “Pending notification of family members, further details will not be released at this time.”

“Detectives are following leads regarding a suspected driver of the vehicle involved,” according to the release.

“At this time, the Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who might have been in the area between 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday and has potential information to call DGSO Det. Lance Flachsbarth, 785-393-5845, or Douglas County Crime Stoppers, 785-843-TIPS (8477), and leave your contact information,” according to the release.
