Here’s a quick glance at closures, service changes and more for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in Lawrence.
• Lawrence Transit: There will be no transit service on Thursday, Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
Central Station will be closed from Monday, Dec. 22 through Friday, Dec. 26 and again on Jan. 1.
• Solid waste pickup will be completed one day later than normally scheduled during both holiday weeks for customers whose pickup days are Thursday and Friday. Regular Thursday collection customers’ trash will be picked up on Friday, and so on.
“Residents wishing to utilize the City’s Tree-Cycling program should place their live-cut trees at the curb or alley by 6 a.m. on their collection service day on the days that yard waste is collected,” according to a city news release. “As a reminder, yard waste is not collected during Holiday weeks. We will begin collecting trees the week of January 5.”
• Parking downtown at meters and in lots and garages will be free on Thursday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

• Douglas County District Court and the district attorney’s office will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25, as well as Thursday, Jan. 1.
• City of Lawrence and Douglas County offices as well as satellite offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
• Lawrence Parks & Rec facilities will be closed Thursday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, as will the administrative and cemetery offices.
The Community Building, East Lawrence Recreation Center and Holcom Park Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and Sports Pavilion Lawrence will be open from 5:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 31.

Prairie Park Nature Center will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 31.
Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open from 8 a.m. to Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, and from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26.
• The Lawrence Arts Center will be closed through Sunday, Jan. 4.
• The Spencer Museum of Art will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 25 through Jan. 1, except for Saturday, Dec. 27. The museum will be open from noon to 5 p.m. that day for Friends and Family Day so people can “take a break from the holiday hustle and prepare for a joyous new year. Bring friends and family or stroll the galleries solo and experience our exhibitions ‘My Mother’s Tongue Ties Me Together’ and ‘Iⁿ’zhúje’waxóbe: Return of the Sacred Red Rock’ before they close in January.”
• The Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will have altered hours around the holidays.
Lap swimming hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, Tuesday, Dec. 23, Saturday, Dec. 27, and Sunday, Dec. 28; from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 31; and from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
Warm water workout will be from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, Tuesday, Dec. 23, Friday, Dec. 26, Saturday, Dec. 27, Sunday, Dec. 28 and Friday, Jan. 2, as well as from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 31.
The zero depth and children’s area with slide will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 and Dec. 29; Tuesday, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30; Friday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2; and Saturday, Dec. 27, as well as from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 31.
• The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. It will close at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1. The digital library is open 24/7.
• The Lawrence Humane Society will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25 but open for adoptions from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23; noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24; and noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26.
• Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25, as well as Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1.

• Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Dec. 26. It will also be closed Thursday, Jan. 1.
• School resumes on Tuesday, Jan. 6 for Lawrence Public Schools and Baldwin City schools. It resumes Wednesday, Jan. 7 for Eudora schools.
• Spring semester classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 20 for Haskell Indian Nations University and the University of Kansas. They begin Monday, Jan. 26 for Baker University.
