Lawrence, Lenexa residents injured in 4-vehicle crash in Johnson County

A 21-year-old from Lawrence and a 20-year-old from Lenexa were seriously injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 435 in Johnson County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

Jaidon Joseph Keyes, 21, of Lawrence, was driving a CR-V westbound on I-435 at the exit to Kansas Highway 10 just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Carson Douglas McLaughlin, 20, of Lenexa, was Keyes’ passenger, according to the report.

A Ram 4500 driven by Frederick Joseph Sharp, 44, of Bonner Springs, rear-ended Keyes’ CR-V, causing it to lose control and spin into another lane, according to the report.

Keyes’ CR-V was then struck on the driver’s side by another westbound CR-V; that CR-V was then rear-ended by a Ram 5500. The Ram 5500 then struck the right rear passenger side of Keyes’ CR-V, according to the report.

Sharp’s Ram came to rest came to a stop on the right shoulder of the exit ramp to K-10, according to the report. Keyes’ vehicle, the second CR-V and the Ram 5500 came to rest on the left shoulder of I-435, according to the report.

Keyes and McLaughlin were taken to the KU hospital in Kansas City, according to the report.

None of the other drivers involved were injured, according to the crash report, and all involved were wearing seat belts.
