There will be no shortage of bliny at this weekend’s Spring Festival, hosted by KU’s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.
The event is held each year around the time of Maslenitsa, a Slavic festival that celebrates the arrival of spring. It is open to the public and will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St.
The Spring Festival will feature live music performances by Gerald Trimble and Jambaroque, a six-piece ensemble that plays traditional music from Turkey, Armenia and the Caucasus, starting at 2 p.m.
At 3 p.m., Mavka, an Olathe-based Ukrainian dance group, will perform.
CREES will serve hundreds of bliny — East European crepes that symbolize the sun — and nonalcoholic drinks. Liberty Hall will sell alcoholic drinks at its bar.
A craft table and photo booth will also be available. Attendees can learn to make Polish wycianki, or papercut art; color a Ukrainian pysanka, or decorated egg; make Bulgarian Martenitsa dolls and more, according to the event page.
