The Lawrence community is invited to learn about protecting the Wakarusa River Valley through science, art, writing and more at the second annual Haskell Wetlands Day.
This year’s event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 10 at Tecumseh Hall, 2445 Choctaw Ave. on Haskell Indian Nations University’s campus.
“We hope to see the community come together to join us for this day to celebrate the histories, cultures, and ecologies of the Sacred Haskell Wetlands!” the Facebook event reads.
Here is the schedule for the day:
• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Attendees can connect with local and regional organizations that “care for our Kansas lands and our more-than-human relatives,” per the Facebook event.
• 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.: There will be a screening of “LandBack to the Future,” a hyperlocal documentary on the community’s continual fight to save the Wakarusa Wetlands. The film is produced by Rising Voices, Changing Coasts Research Fellow Brendan McInerney.
• 2:30 to 4 p.m.: Folks from the Haskell Greenhouse will host a tour of Haskell lands.
