The Lawrence Farmers Market is about to enter its 50th year, and Opening Day is coming up soon.

Although the market is in the planning phases of making a move, it will still be held in the parking lot at 824 New Hampshire St. in downtown Lawrence where it’s popped up each week of its seasons since 2008.

Opening Day will run from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11. More than 50 of the market’s 78 vendors will be onsite, selling fresh produce, meat, eggs, baked goods, cut flowers, herbal products, and much more, according to a news release from organizers.

“Fifty years is evidence of this community’s commitment to knowing where their food comes from,” Emily Lysen, director of development for the market, said in the release. “We’re so proud of what this Market has become, and we are excited to welcome everyone back to help us make this the most memorable Market season yet.”

The market will bring back its Double Up Food Bucks and Double Up Protein Bucks programs. Eligible SNAP/EBT users can double the purchasing power of their benefits and purchase fresh food at the market. Learn more about the Double Up programs at this link.

The market will be held rain or shine each Saturday through Nov. 21. It’s free to enter and open to all. Find information and maps of vendors, upcoming special events and more at lawrencefarmersmarket.org.

Market organizers are hoping to establish a permanent location with a pavilion at South Park. Read more about the market’s push for a permanent location in the articles at this link.
