Harvey Otis Hockenbury, 87, of Lecompton, Ks. an avid OU fan passed away Friday, January 28, 2022, at his daughters’ residence in El Dorado, Ks. Cremation has been affected. Family will have a private memorial at a later date.
Harvey was born January 4, 1935, to Joel H. and Evelyn I. (Gibson) Hockenbury at the bottom of Horse Shoe Hill Silverdale, Ks. January 4, 1935. He later grew up and attended schools in Arkansas City graduating from Arkansas City High School and going into the Army in 1953 stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska until 1955.
Harvey married Peggy “Dot” Morris in 1955 and they had four children divorcing in 1978. For many years he worked the swing shift at the APCO refinery Ark City when in 1972 he began working as an electrician for Raco Electric in Lawrence Kansas moving his family there. He finished his career at age 75 for Oliver Electric still teaching others just recently when they would call on him.
He loved living on his acreage and enjoying his rottweilers and the wildlife in front of him including playful fox and talking sports with his brother Gary and son Todd. Loved keeping up with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren on Facebook with their sports and achievements. Harvey was a member of the First Assembly of God and loved his Lord and Savior.
Survivors include his brother Gary Hockenbury (Jackie), Arkansas City, Ks, son Tyler, daughter Shelby Lewis (Devin), El Dorado, Ks, son Todd Lawrence Ks., Grand children Jessie Hopper, Ralston McIlvain, Tanner, Montana, and Keat Hockenbury. Great grandchildren Taylor and Braden Hopper, Ralston, Gatlin and River McIlvain. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Joel and Evelyn, brother Jack B. Hockenbury, sister Elaine J Hill and his daughter Monti Rae.
Memorials have been established to Silverdale Township C/O Ronda Melton 14601 8th Street, Silverdale Ks 67005 for the Silverdale Cemetery restoration and up keep and Harry Haynes Hospice.
