The sheriff’s office said in a tweet that from 3 p.m. to just before 6:45 p.m., deputies responded to 17 calls to assist motorists or handle noninjury and minor injury crashes.

Multiple crashes were also reported on Interstate 70. The Times was not aware of any serious injuries as the result of crashes in Douglas County as of the time of publication.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from about 4 p.m. Sunday through 4 a.m. Monday. The NWS forecasted about 1 to 3 inches of sleet, as a wintry mix would change to snow later in the evening. The NWS forecast showed an overnight low of 26°, and a high of 40° on Monday.

Late Sunday night, the Lawrence school district announced that school would start two hours late on Monday.

“Please remember that a two-hour delay means that your bus route, breakfast service, and school start time will be two hours later than the regular schedule,” district spokesperson Julie Boyle wrote in an email to school families. “As is always the case, parents may choose to keep their children home for health and safety reasons. Please notify your school of these decisions, just as you do for any school absence.”

Current information on road conditions is available at KanDrive.org and on the City of Lawrence website.
