Mark your calendars: Organizers are planning a special two-day, multivenue Lawrence PRIDE celebration this June.
PRIDE will be an “extravaganza dedicated to drag, ballroom, music, art, and dance!” according to a Wednesday news release from host I Heart Local Music.
On Friday, June 24, PRIDE events will begin with an art fair at Vibe, live music and a drag showcase at Lucia.
That evening there will be a mini ball at the Granada, “thanks to the Kansas City ballroom community and Fatha Ambrosia,” according to the release. It’s free and open to all ages, but donations are suggested and will benefit Haus of McCoy, a nonprofit community hub for queer and trans youth in Lawrence.
On Saturday, June 25 the annual parade will return to downtown Lawrence, as will a PRIDE party at Abe & Jake’s Landing.
“The party kicks off at Abe and Jake’s with a stacked lineup of music and drag! We’ll have several queer-operated vendors on hand to help celebrate, and a DJ will round out the night with a dance party,” according to the release.
Performers will include the following, according to the release:
- MsAmanda Love
- Stephonne
- Deja Brooks
- Cuee
- Novacayne DeMornay
- Sasha May Carmichael
- Raven Jade Von’Du
- Candice Marie
