Tuesday was not Butch Patrick’s first visit to Lawrence, but it was a special one for “Munsters” fans.
Metal musician and film director Rob Zombie’s film reboot of the 1960s sitcom, in which Butch Patrick played the role of Eddie Munster, made its Netflix debut on Tuesday.
Unsurprisingly, the flick stars Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, as Lily Munster. In addition to her music video portrayal of the “Living Dead Girl,” Sheri Moon rose to fame after her 2003 role as Baby Firefly in cult classic “House of 1000 Corpses.” She also played the mother of Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween.
Playing Lily Munster in a PG-rated film is a bit of a change of pace. “In this reboot of the 1960s sitcom, Transylvania vampire Lily falls head over fangs for loveable, lumbering monster Herman over her father’s objections,” the Netflix synopsis reads.
Patrick is in the reboot, too, lending his voice to the Tin Can Man.
Terry Taylor, owner of downtown Lawrence toy store 1313 Mockingbird Lane, has hosted Patrick for fan meet-and-greets multiple times.
So, what’s the verdict from the Lawrence man who named his business after the Munsters mansion?
“At first we didn’t have high expectations,” Taylor said of the film. “But we watched it at midnight and loved it. We’ve watched it twice.”
