A winter weather advisory has been issued from 7 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Up to 2 inches of snow was expected in areas including Douglas and surrounding counties, the NWS reported as of Monday morning; however, in an update late Monday night, the NWS said the light snow would continue to move eastward and diminish after midnight, with additional accumulations of an inch or less.

The overnight low temperature is expected to be around 31°, according to the NWS forecast as of 10:30 p.m. Monday. Tuesday is expected to see a high of 39°. Look out for slick roadways Tuesday morning.

The city’s Parks and Recreation facilities are open for warming during their regular hours. The Community Building downtown, 115 W. 11th St., and the East Lawrence Rec Center, 1245 E. 15th St., are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The city’s emergency overnight winter shelter has not yet opened for the season. It is scheduled to be open from Dec. 1 through March 12.

City crews were pretreating bridges and elevated surfaces across town, according to a news release Monday afternoon.

“The City will only begin snow and ice control for residential area roadways after the accumulation of two or more inches of snowfall or when icing occurs,” according to the release. “During a winter weather event, priority roadways are treated first before crews move into residential areas.”

The city has more information and a map at this link that shows information about road conditions and snow plow locations.
