Kansas Public Radio’s Big Band Christmas holiday jazz concert will return to Lawrence this Saturday, following a two-year hiatus.
The show will feature “a night of swingin’ Yuletide favorites with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, an internationally acclaimed performing arts group providing jazz entertainment and education to the Kansas City area and beyond,” according to a news release from KPR.
“Formed in 2003, the ensemble brings together 19 of the best musicians that the city has to offer, including direction from bandleader and trumpeter Clint Ashlock,” according to the release.
KPR is also asking attendees to bring donations for Just Food, the Douglas County food bank. According to a Sunday Instagram post from Just Food, urgent food needs include tuna, cereal, pasta sauce, spaghetti, jelly, flour and sugar. There will be a barrel onsite to collect nonperishable items, and each donor will receive a KPR 70th anniversary commemorative pin, according to the news release.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St.
General admission tickets are available for $25 apiece via Ticketmaster or the Liberty Hall box office. If tickets are still available at the door, the box office only accepts cash.
