It’s the biggest bookstore party of the year, the Raven says on a Facebook event page about Independent Bookstore Day.
The Raven Book Store will host a sidewalk sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24 outside 6 E. Seventh St. in downtown Lawrence. That means that “for the first time since March 2020, you’ll be able to browse books at the Raven!”
Starting at 11 a.m., Ladybird Diner will have pie by the slice and Leeway Franks will serve hotdogs and brats.
The Raven will also have new shirts for sale (designed by Nicholas Stahl and printed at Oddities Prints), the “world-famous (okay maybe not) Raven Prize wheel” and more.
“Even if you can’t join us in-person on Saturday, you can celebrate with Libro.fm!” the Raven’s event pages says. “Spend $15 at any indie bookstore on Saturday and you can pick one from a collection of free audiobooks. One of the choices for free audiobook is our own Danny Caine’s How To Resist Amazon and Why!”
Downtown Lawrence Inc. also listed independent bookstores The Dusty Bookshelf, 708 Massachusetts St.; Signs of Life, 722 Massachusetts St.; and The Toy Store, 936 Massachusetts St. in a short announcement ahead of the celebration.
In addition, hundreds of bookstores across the country will be holding celebrations Saturday. Find out more at indiebound.org.
