Couples, singles and foodies alike, rejoice: Valentine’s Day is sure to bring fun for all this year.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the first annual Valentine’s Day Market and Hot Cocoa Contest, set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Feb. 11 at the Carnegie Building, 200 W. Ninth St.

The event will be free and open to all ages. The city is seeking both market vendors and cocoa enthusiasts ready to bring their A-game.

The hot cocoa contest, which is set to begin at 1 p.m., is open to everyone and costs $5 to enter. Contestants will go head-to-head in a judging process before the winners are announced. Whoever’s lucky enough to end up in first place will receive bragging rights and a small prize.

Vendor spaces include one 8-foot table. Chairs will not be provided. A limited supply of electricity and additional tables are available upon request; vendors needing extra supplies should contact communications and events coordinator Abby Bush-Wilder at awilder@lawrenceks.org or 785-832-3460.

Anyone interested in entering the contest or registering as a vendor may do so at this link, or in person at any LPRD facility.

According to an email from the city, registered vendors will receive more information via email one to two weeks prior to the event.
