Deputy Superintendent Anna Stubblefield has been selected as the superintendent of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, the Lawrence school district announced Friday.
She was selected after a consultant-led search firm narrowed a national pool of 21 candidates down to three finalists, according to KCKPS.
In Lawrence, “The superintendent will evaluate this position in light of district needs and resources and consider the potential for administrative restructuring,” according to the district’s news release.
Stubblefield became principal of Lawrence’s then-Central Junior High, now Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, in 2008, according to the release. She was promoted to division director of human resources for the district in 2012, and assistant superintendent of business and operations in 2016.
In the middle of the 2016-2017 year, she took on additional duties as assistant superintendent of educational support and equity, according to the release. She served as interim superintendent through 2017-2018 during the search that found current Superintendent Anthony Lewis, and she became deputy superintendent in the 2018-2019 school year.
“Dr. Stubblefield is an amazing leader and is more than ready to take KCKPS to the next level,” Lewis said in the release. “That community is getting a jewel.”
Stubblefield’s resignation is effective June 30, capping 13 years with Lawrence Public schools.
“This is so bittersweet,” Stubblefield said in the release. “I have been blessed to have mentors within the district who supported, encouraged, and believed in me. The compilation of my experiences in Lawrence has prepared me to be the next superintendent in KCKPS.”
