Leaders of Cherokee Nation will be in Lawrence on Saturday for an at-large meeting and cultural event.
“Be sure to join us for this exciting meeting with cultural presentations and demonstrations, along with a visit with Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr., Deputy Chief Bryan Warner and at-large councilors Julia Coates and Johnny Kidwell,” according to the Facebook event page.
The event may include Miss Cherokee, flute playing, storytelling, and traditional arts and crafts, according to a flyer.
Cherokee Nation Registration will be on-site for photo IDs and citizenship applications, according to the event page. Education Services and Cherokee Vote will be there to assist citizens as well. In order to cast a ballot in the June 3 general election, citizens must be registered to vote by the end of March, the Cherokee Phoenix reports. CN citizens who will be 18 years old by Election Day may register.
The meeting is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Open Pavilion, 1930 Harper St. Lunch will be provided, according to the event page.

The Cherokee Nation is the largest tribe in the United States, and there are more than 450,000 tribal citizens worldwide, according to the nation’s website, cherokee.org. More than 141,000 CN citizens reside within the tribe’s reservation boundaries in northeastern Oklahoma, according to the website.
