Harmonic Connections will host a series of free therapeutic choir events to help stroke survivors and people with Parkinson’s disease beginning Thursday, according to owner Emily Bachert.

Bachert is a board-certified music therapist. The Connections Choir will use techniques meant to “strengthen muscles used in speaking and respiration,” as well as address other vocal skills affected by a stroke or Parkinson’s disease, according to a flyer for the program.

Although the choir is geared toward individuals who have experienced a stroke or Parkinson’s disease, all seniors are welcome. No prior singing or music-reading experience is necessary to participate.

The choir will meet from 11 to 11:50 a.m. on Thursdays, June 8, 15 and 22, at the Senior Resource Center for Douglas County, 745 Vermont St. No registration for the choir is required, and people may choose which sessions to attend.

Donations to cover the cost of materials will be accepted but are not required.

Those who have questions can reach Bachert at 785-840-7409 or via email at bachertemily@gmail.com.
