Nerd Nite Lawrence this week will celebrate its 100th gathering, as the intellectual exchanges now span more than 12 years “of glorious nerdy stories and sharing.”

Nerd Nite began globally in 2003 to offer presenters a fun format to share a topic of interest or expertise. The first Lawrence Nerd Nite was hosted at Pachamamas in 2011.

“Since then, Nerd Nite Lawrence has been a staple in the community, offering a unique platform for nerds to share their passions, discoveries, and intriguing facts,” according to a news release from organizers. “Talks cover all topics, including history, pop culture, gaming, hiking, traveling, walking, sociology, music, and wandering around in a field in Pennsylvania getting hit with foam swords.”

The 100th event will feature “Witch Fulfillment,” by Jane Barnette; “Trinity Site Visit, July 16, 1995,” by Matt Kirby; and “Women of the Palace,” by Terry Asper, according to the event website. Each person will give a 20-minute presentation on their topic, and there will be a trivia round and raffle for Nerd Nite prizes, according to the release.

“Nerd Nite has always been one of my favorite events because listening to someone talk about a topic they are passionate about can make anything a joy to learn,” Nerd Nite Co-boss Skyler Rehm said in the release.

Whether you’ve been a long-time attendee or this is your first Nerd Nite, all are welcome, according to the release.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and speakers begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Maceli’s, 1031 New Hampshire St. Cover is $1.

Nerd Nite Lawrence is held the second Wednesday of each month. Learn more at lawrence.nerdnite.com.
