After COVID-19 forced the Lawrence City Band to take an unexpected summer off last year, the group is finally able to return to its weekly concert series, the city announced Tuesday.
The band, conducted by Paul Popiel, will open its run of summer concerts at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26 in front of South Park’s William Kelly Bandstand, 1141 Massachusetts St., in an event free and open to members of the public.
The shows will be at the same time and place each week, and have the following themes on tap for the summer:
May 26: Celebrations!
June 2: Journeys
June 9: Showtime!
June 16: Dance the Summer Away
June 23: La Noche Caliente
June 30: Watercolors
July 7: American Tribute
July 14: Hollywood and Broadway Favorites
The band will be socially distanced and perform on the concrete slab east of South Park’s bandstand. Attendees will also be asked to follow social distancing guidelines in the park, keeping at least 6 feet apart from anyone not in the same household.
In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be held at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive.
