A T-shirt fundraiser and party with live music and food will support young people skateboarding in Lawrence.
“Damn the man! Come jam with Plead the Belly, Black Tarpoon and Fast Food Junkies…Empire Records style!” organizers wrote on the Facebook event page for “Damn the Man, Save the Skate.”
The $30 T-shirt presales also get you a golden ticket to the party. It’s $20 to enter the night of, but that won’t include the shirt.
Thursday, Nov. 30 is the last day to order T-shirts. They’re available from River Rat Print and Skate at this link.
The Lawrence Skaters Association will be in charge of the funds raised from the event, organizer Erin Mahoney said.
LSA members have been working to help local kids who wouldn’t be able to afford it otherwise get the gear they need to skate, as Flatland KC reported in May. The barrier of entry to the sport can be high: skateboards can cost $150 on the low end.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and music starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at River Rat, 608 N. Second St. The party is capped at 200 people, and it will be first-come, first-served.
Lawrence Beer Company will be serving beer and Wild Alive Ferments will sell food, according to the event page.
“Dress in your best 90s/Empire Records attire! And remember to get to the Rat early and do a little pre-party shopping to show your appreciation for them hosting this bash,” event organizers wrote.
